Family – Based Visas (non-immigrant)

The following is a list of common non-immigrant family-based visas that can be obtained for limited durations of stay in the United States.

  • K-1, reserved for finance of US Citizen, good for a period of ninety days during which time finance must marry or return to home country. Once married, the finance can apply for US Citizenship.
  • F-1, reserved for academic or language students. F-2, reserved for the immediate family members of F-1 visa holders.
  • H-1, reserved for workers and specialty occupations requiring education or experience.
  • H-2, reserved for temporary agricultural and other workers filling positions for which the government has recognized a shortage.
  • H-3, reserved for worker trainees.
  • H-4, reserved for the immediate family members of H-1, H-2 or H-3 visa holders.
  • J-1, reserved for exchange visitors coming to the U.S. to study, work or train. J-2 reserved for the immediate family members of J-1 visa holders.
  • L-1, reserved for persons who have been transferred to the U.S. by their companies to work in positions as managers, executives or persons with specialized knowledge; L-2, reserved for immediate family members of L-1 visa holders.
  • M-1, reserved for persons who are vocational or other nonacademic students, other than language students. M-2, reserved for immediate family members of M-1 visa holders.
  • N, reserved for children of certain special immigrants.
  • T, reserved for victims of human trafficking, or slavery.
